In the 1970s, Richard Gere began his acting career and started to appear in films with supporting roles such as Days of Heaven and Looking for Mr. Goodbar. He eventually gained prominence following his role in the crime drama film American Gigolo, which established the actor as a leading man. Earlier in his career, Gere worked professionally at the Provincetown Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre in 1969, where he had starred in Guildenstern Are Dead and Rosencrantz. His first major role was in the original London stage version of Grease in 1973.
In the following years since then, the actor has starred in several successful films in Hollywood throughout his career, including Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Cotton Club Primal Fear, Runaway Bride, Arbitrage, and many more— credit to his acting skills. On the other hand, Gere has three children, one of whom was with his previous spouse, actress Carey Lowell, named Homer James Jigme Gere. With his current wife, Alejandra Silva, he has two sons.
